I did a google search… women have their midlife crisis between the ages of 35-44. I thought that didn’t happen till your 50’s.
Botox crossed my mind. I take pills at 9pm…and I’ve considered a long, big, curly wig. I cradle dogs like babies…and I spend time searching my favorite bands from the 80s! For reals, y’all! (You should know, I’ve never said those three words together before.)
So, I sat myself down… (honestly, I look like a bag of potatoes with a top knot slumped in the right corner of the sofa) and began jotting down my thoughts about being in my 40’s.
It seems that as of late, either I or someone else brings up age. While in Guatemala, several asked if I was my friend’s mother.
She is 27. t w e n t y s e v e n
So, if you are in your 40’s or just in a strange stage/place in life…you are not alone. Maybe if I throw myself out there, it will make things better for you. Maybe.
Here are 44 things that I’ve learned in my 44 years.
- 40’s are not “old.” Old is 100.
- Your head tells you that you can still hurdle a trash can, but your body reminds you that you can’t.
- People will always let you down, and I am people. I will let you down.
- You can’t argue with anyone and win. Love wins.
- Sin is sin. Anger, selfishness, etc.
- You don’t have to be friends with everyone and that’s okay. Cut ties if it’s for the health of one or both.
- Live your dream…don’t wait.
- Encourage others in their dreams – cheer each other on.
- A new job, boss, children, spouse, house with green eggs and ham are not the answer to your problems.
- Physical health is important.
- If you don’t know God, it’s because you’ve not spent enough time with Him.
- It’s not enough to have books. You must also read them.
- You know what you are good at…and what you’re not.
- You can’t compare how you look to someone in their 20’s.
- Humility is attractive.
- If I don’t write it down, I will forget it.
- Doctors require you to wear your paper gown differently.
- Don’t force things. If it’s meant to happen..it will.
- Things will always change. Accept it…embrace the rollercoaster.
- Teeth are expensive.
- You still need encouragement and compliments.
- Sugar is a real and serious addiction…and I, Connie, am a sugar addict.
- You think about death/heaven more often.
- Mom was right.
- Sunblock would have made a difference.
- I’m comfortable in who I am, but others might not be.
- You learn how to say “no”…and mean it.
- You have less drama in your life.
- Your hair is thinner and waist thicker.
- I wish I lived next door to my parents.
- You celebrate a healthy “smooth move”.
- Everyone is special…and that’s good!
- My family is amazing.
- Good people, God’s people, can disagree on politics and still be friends.
- I hide behind humor.
- I really, really, really hate sad things.
- I wish I were Lara Croft from Tomb Raider and was fighting injustice.
- I’m a good friend, despite doing a poor job staying in touch.
- Don’t believe everything you read or hear.
- Everyone is fighting a battle…and needs grace.
- I need 7 or more hours of sleep a night.
- Plants are important in a home.
- My love language is acts of service and gifts.
- Finger tattoos aren’t for everyone.
The End…for now.
