When I’m not traveling, leading teams…I work in the main office of Adventures in Missions in Gainesville, GA. You’ve heard bits and pieces about the team of 9 that I’m the “Regional Advocate” for in Cambodia, but now I want to share about the “A’s”. Amy and Aimee.

Amy and Aimee are two very special, young women who I have been working with as a “Regional Advocate” over the last several months. They will be leaving to serve  in Chiang Mai, Thailand where I visited on my last trip to Thailand. They will be based there over the next two years, starting end of August. They also work with Adventures In Missions, but will be serving with several local ministries in Thailand. A few of the organizations they will be doing work with include (though not limited to):

YWAM Lighthouse in action http://www.ywamthai.org/lighthouse/

Calling:
Their hearts are for the Burmese people who are crossing the Thai border seeking refuge from genocide taking place in their country. The Burmese government is extremely corrupt and has basically been ruled by an abusive military regime since the 60’s. The country is currently engaged in one of the longest running civil wars in history. The people have no civil rights and the ethnic groups are oppressed and treated with brutal violence. If you would like more information on Burma , its history, or the current situation, there is a blog post at http://aimeedhondt.theworldrace.org  that is very informative and helpful. (Titled “This is why I am moving to Thailand”)

While in Thailand, the main contact they will be working with is the Free Burma Rangers. This organization is having a huge impact inside Burma and even in Northern Thailand where they are based. The founder, Dave Eubank goes on missions into Burma with teams to bring food, supplies, medical care, and hope to the ethnic people fleeing from the oppressive military junta. FBR is mainly made up of ethnic leaders and volunteers who are trained in several areas including medical care and military skill to protect the ethnic minorities during attacks.

In Chiang Mai the girls hope to just help FBR with any needs they have. They may do some administrative work for them from time to time, but are mostly planning to work at a Burmese youth hostel in Thailand, teaching English and doing devotionals for the kids a few days a week.

A few days a week, they will also be partnering with a YWAM group called “Love Acts” and a children’s home called Remember Nhu. Love Acts is an outreach for women and lady boys working in bars in the red light district in Chiang Mai. Remember Nhu is a children’s home that takes in children that are at-risk for being sold into the sex trade industry. Working with them will include spending time with the kids and helping with construction of a new home.

Videos: Heartbreaking videos…

Here are a few video links that describe the situation in Burma.

The girls thank you so much for your support and prayers. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact them. They are always enthusiastic to share about their hearts for the Thai and Burmese people. Support raising has been a long process, but the ladies have a big deadline to reach out for new support so they are able to leave as scheduled by the end of August. If you feel led to support them in this ministry that the Lord has called them to, please see the info below.
